A class of small regulatory RNAs, termed piRNAs, protect the genome from invading DNA sequences. These piRNAs are generated by two pathways that act in parallel, like a piece of music where two hands play simultaneously. One pathway involves a protein called Zucchini, which cuts the RNA at a specific sequence, while the other one involves Nibbler – a newly discovered enzyme which ‘nibbles’ at one end of the RNA.
